Psychologists have recently discovered a number of such white-collar “go to shortcuts,” which we use every day in our inference (Chaiken, 1987; Kahneman, Slovic and Tversky, 1982). They are called heuristics to judge, and all operate in a similar way as already mentioned rule “expensive = good” and simplify the process of issuing court, usually for the benefit, though occasionally expose us to costly mistakes.
